WHAT MAKES OUR POOL LEAK TEST STICKERS THE BEST?

If you think you have a leak and call out a leak detection service, that service company will probably charge you between $400-$450.  Our pool leak tester is a low-cost solution, and the first step that you should take before you have to make that kind of investment.

The number one reason our pool detection sticker works is its simple application, easy to read markings, and our adhesive backing that goes right on the pool skimmers wet surface.

We have gone through extensive testing on stickers in general, and adhesives in particular.  We know our stickers work in wet conditions.

The best location to test for pool leaks with our sticker, is right on the skimmer wall.  The reason is easy to understand.  Pool surfaces are all different:  Some have aggregate, others are small mosaic tiles and make those surfaces difficult for the stickers to adhere to.   You can apply them there but sometimes the bottoms curl up, though, they can be pressed down, so it is best to stay with your skimmer wall for best results.

Keep this in mind when you think about low priced stickers in general.  You need to know that all stickers are not alike.

Many sticker companies claim waterproof and weatherproof, but the fact is, when you look closer at them, they all need to be applied to a dry surface.

Our sticker applies to the side wall of the skimmer right at the water line.  You apply the sticker to the wall of your skimmer, matching your pools’ water level to the water line marked on the sticker.  Right on the wet surface.   That’s our claim to fame and why you should buy our stickers!

The test is over after 24 hours have passed and you can remove the sticker.  You can always shoot a picture of the water level for your records.

Most pools evaporate at the rate of 1/8″ a day.  Given extreme weather conditions like excessive heat and winds, some pools may evaporate at times as much as 1/4″ a day.  Either way, you are covered with our 1/4″ OK calibrations.  Our leak notice starts after the 1/4″ mark.  If you ever call a water pool leak company and tell them you are losing a 1/4″ of water a day, they will probably just tell you what we just said, so you have some room for error in there.

With that as our background, here are some of the other reasons, features and benefits for using our stickers.

Our pool detection stickers are like the pick and the shovel of a gardening project, only in this metaphor, we’re a lot less work.  We supply the leak test sticker, you apply the sticker and then review the results.  This leak detection product is:

  1. Simple to use
  2. Delivers results
  3. Only has one step concept in the directions- “apply leak test sticker water line marking right at pool water level”

(See our pool direction page for all the things you need to be aware of.)

Essentially, all you have to do is peel the back off the sticker, take your time and place the water line of the sticker right at the water level of the pool.  You need to take your time and be accurate when placing the sticker to the water level.  Also, you should make sure you turn the pump off to let the water settle.

That’s it, like we said it’s as simple as 1,2, 3!

  1. Peel the label off
  2. Apply sticker
  3. Read the water level after 24 hours

WHAT IF MY POOL DOESN'T HAVE A SKIMMER?

Most pools in the ground or on top of the ground have skimmers.  The exception would be zero gravity pools where the water cascades over the side of the pool and recirculates back into the pool.  Only in those cases you can apply the sticker to the side of the pool.  You will find the bottom of the sticker may roll or buckle up after 24 hours.  Just press it down and read the results.  That will have no impact on the test results.

You should follow the directions as outlined for applying the skimmer if you have to apply it directly to the pool surface.

WHY WORRY ABOUT A LITTLE SWIMMING POOL LEAK?

We always worry that little leaks can turn into bigger leaks, and that means more water wasted and money spent to fix the problem.  For example, a little leak around your drain in an inground pool begins to wash out the aggregate material around the pool drain, and it starts to soften.   A little leak that could have been fixed easily with underwater epoxy, now presents a much bigger problem that could require the pool to be drained, and the material around the drain cleaned out and recemented, requiring the pool to be filled back up.  That is just one example that I can speak of from experience, with it having happened to me personally.

The other problems may be more obvious and come in the form of trying to keep your proper chemical levels in balance.  Having to always add more water to the pool effects your chlorine and stabilizer level.  And improper chemical levels can create a green pool and the extra cost from additional chemicals and water add up!

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE A POOL LEAK?

In the event your pool leak test confirms you have a leak or your bucket test shows that you do, you will need to call a local pool leak detection service company.  Always start with your pool service company. They may do leak detection, or they will certainly know the best service provider in the area.  A typical service call is about $400-$450 and most deduct all or some of that fee off of the leak repair.

OUR DISCLAIMER
